Moli Coloma
Packaging Design
Moli Coloma, a part of the Sumarroca group, is a Spanish brand committed to the production of high quality extra virgin olive oil with minimal use of agrochemicals. When it came time to deciding what that oil would be stored in, though, they came to DAf, requesting fresh new designs for their packaging.
DAf designed packaging options intended to highlight the unique characteristics of the oil. We wanted something stylish and eyecatching that would reflect both personality and distinction. Gregal, for instance, is a name and bottle made for the brand’s Lecciona variety, an olive produced from a cross between the Leccino and Arbosano varieties, and one of the principal olives used in Italian oil production. It has a clear Mediterranean influence and we desired a name that would reflect that trait. 'Gregal', when used as a noun, is a mediterranean wind generated in the ecosystem of shallow sea water. The bottle that bears the name combines bright colors and geometric shapes to mirror the vigor and elegance of the oil. Moli Coloma’s Bag-in-Box is a cheaper, more environmentally friendly alternative to bottles as a packaging option. Made from recycled materials, its lightweight design saves on transport and requires less energy and water to produce. All these factors reflect Moli Coloma's passion for the environment and commitment to lowering its carbon footprint. In our design, we opted for an eyecatching way to communicate this information, balancing cute with elegant in a way that makes this cheaper alternative seem top dollar. El Peró and Santa Creu are Moli Coloma’s two estate oils whose unique growing places are reflected in the uniqueness of the oils themselves. While both are produced from Arbequina olives, both offer their own distinct qualities. Santa Creu, created on the Santa Creu de Creixà estate in Piera, reproduces that environment through its delicate aroma. Peiró oil, meanwhile, comes with all the attributes of fruit grown at altitude on stone terraces in the Piorat region. Our packaging once again reflects the high quality and elegance of the product. Displaying their similarities through a common design but with a different color scheme to pay tribute to each unique profile.
Moli Coloma wasn’t the only one who really liked our ideas. We’re thrilled to report that the prestigious LE FORME DELL'OLIo 2025 contest did as well. The packaging designed by DAf was recognized for its excellence in this international packaging and innovation contest, standing out for its balance between aesthetics, functionality and sustainability.
A new look comes with a lot of personality.
