Carlos I – Legacy Collection

Challenge

Carlos I, one of Spain’s best-known brandies, wanted to create a limited edition and once again turned to DAf’s expertise in spirits to bring its new Legacy Collection to life. This is the first in a saga of several planned “enological jewels” to be released periodically, each from different historic tonneaux. DAf was asked to create videos, key visuals and photographs for this campaign, to position the Legacy Collection as a unique, super premium product within the Carlos I brand.

Solution

For this limited edition designed for collectors, we focused on sharing the quality and craftsmanship involved in the process of its creation. We developed the claim “A gem polished by legacy” based on the fact that this brandy was created using centuries-old casks and artisanal techniques to be a cut above. The client trusted DAf in the creation of the CGI videos, choosing to work with an innovative technique and sensorial feel that are in vogue in the luxury industry overall despite the traditional nature of the luxury brandy category. The videos, key visuals and studio photos feature 3D elements and a focus on the bottle itself, incorporating its blue-green color into the background, with details that highlight the premium nature of the product. Finally, we photographed Master Blender Marcos Alguacil in the bodega, sharing how he carefully crafts each brandy using his years of experience.

Videos

DAf created three 20 second CGI videos, each with versions in both English and Spanish, to showcase three different aspects that combine to create this premium product. The first focuses on the craftsmanship involved in the process, showing the uniquely-sized historic tonel used to age this first version of the Legacy Collection. The second explores the brandy, sharing its tasting notes and amber color. The final video features the design of the bottle itself. Each video showcases intricate 3D animation set against an polygonal background with 3D shapes that brings in the color of the bottle and provides a fresh touch that keeps the product feeling classic and high end while still modern.

Key Visual

The key visual focuses on the bottle, with its gem-like angles, in front of a 3D background that gives the impression of jewels. It includes the claim “A gem polished by legacy,” which springs from the client’s concept that each of the three releases of the Legacy Collection will be an enological jewel. The phrase makes clear that this is no ordinary brandy and that its premium nature comes from the history of Carlos I and its oak tonneaux.

DAf’s Barcelona office shot on-site and studio photographs. In the studio, we captured images that share the details of the specially-designed bottle and show the richness of the brandy itself. We also created a stop motion video. The blue-green 3D background is similar to that of the main videos.

We also went to the Carlos I bodega, where the sherry casks provided an atmospheric backdrop for our shots of Master Blender Marcos Alguacil sharing his process. The style, lighting and color of the photos all lend a gravitas that reinforces the experience and artisan talent behind each bottle.
